Our Goal
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with disabilities, including those who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, voice control, or other assistive technologies.
We view accessibility as an ongoing commitment, not a one-time task. As we add new content and features, we work to ensure they meet the same standard.
What We've Built In
This site includes a number of accessibility features by design:
- Semantic HTML — meaningful page structure with proper headings, landmarks, and lists so screen readers can navigate efficiently
- Descriptive alt text — all images include alternative text that describes their content or purpose
- Keyboard navigation — every interactive element (links, buttons, forms) is fully operable with a keyboard alone
- Visible focus indicators — a high-contrast gold focus ring is shown on all focused elements for keyboard users
- Skip navigation link — a "Skip to main content" link is available at the top of each page for keyboard and screen reader users
- Sufficient color contrast — text and interactive elements meet or exceed the WCAG 2.1 AA contrast ratio requirements
- ARIA labels — navigation regions, forms, dialogs, and buttons include descriptive ARIA attributes where HTML alone is insufficient
- Responsive design — the site is fully usable at all screen sizes, from mobile to desktop
- Reduced motion support — animations and transitions are disabled for users who have indicated a preference for reduced motion
- No time-limited content — no content automatically moves, flashes, or expires in a way that could disadvantage users
- Form accessibility — all form inputs have visible labels and clear error messaging
- Language attribute — the page language is declared in HTML to support screen reader pronunciation
Known Limitations
We are aware of the following areas where accessibility may be limited and are actively working to improve them:
- Third-party embeds — the Action Network volunteer signup form and the ActBlue donation platform are provided by third parties. While we have selected providers who take accessibility seriously, we do not have full control over their embed code. We encourage both services to continue improving their accessibility.
- PDF documents — any PDF documents linked from this site may not be fully accessible. If you need an accessible version of any document, please contact us and we will provide an alternative format.
Assistive Technologies We've Tested With
We have tested this site with the following assistive technologies:
- VoiceOver (macOS and iOS)
- NVDA (Windows)
- Keyboard-only navigation (no mouse)
- Safari, Chrome, and Firefox on desktop and mobile
Browser and Device Support
This site is designed to work with modern browsers including Safari, Chrome, Firefox, and Edge on both desktop and mobile devices. We support the two most recent major versions of each browser.
Report an Accessibility Issue
We take accessibility feedback seriously. If you encounter a barrier on this site — whether it's a page that doesn't work with your screen reader, a form you can't complete, or anything else — please let us know. We will respond promptly and work to resolve the issue.
When reporting an issue, it helps to include:
- The page or section where you encountered the problem
- A brief description of what happened
- The assistive technology or browser you were using (if applicable)
